RariDoom v .8

Oh, this is such a strange feeling. I've had this project on its own little flashdrive for forever. I didn't think it would take this long to finish, but I also didn't expect so much support from everyone, so I owe a lot to you all, too.

Things get a little more meta after the break, but feel free to jump right in and start playing!



I'm releasing this as version .8 for a few reasons. While the game is complete and fully playable, it still needs a little polish. Difficulty settings haven't really been implemented, I'm sure I missed a door track or two, and I'm not sure I've varied the monsters enough (for example, I sprited the archvile and then remembered why I hate archviles so they don't show up very often). I hope multiplayer works but I also hope it doesn't because the player sprites haven't been redone. Also I broke something in the weapons definitions so Custom Edition doesn't work with this wad Custom Edition got updated! Video and download link here.

But I have redone the switches, fixed a couple of the weapons (for example, the spreadshot now counts down instead of going up and back down and the tradeoff is that it's now one tic faster on the reload so you're welcome), there's music for every level, the boring and unfitting startan1 texture has been completely removed (I think...), and any underwater section now has a small on-screen air timer. 

A few other differences that might require an adjustment in play from vanilla DooM: you'll need jump and crouch to beat a couple levels (default is Z and X, but that can be changed), enemies don't infight, your own TwiBlasts don't hurt you, and enemies tend to not drop ammo (and the ones that do drop it randomly).

But mostly, I'm hoping this game is fun. I found a level pack once that had beautiful level design... and a column-jumping puzzle that frustrated me so much I deleted it. If something isn't fun, or doesn't seem fair, let me know. There's a good possibility for a .9 in the future!

If you want even more changelings, try the changelingpack. It's just a sprite replacement wad, so it should work with any other wad. It includes a couple of the decorations to go along with the changelings and a couple death strings.

  2. Also considering this is a tc mod, you could make this as a standalone game, with out the need for doom wads to run it

  7. I noticed a few problems while playing it...

    >One of the doors in E4M7 isn't working. It's the one you go into to get the Yellow Key. I had to noclip through it.

    >There's no music for E2M8.

    This time i included EVERYTHING you need to run the mod in ONE package; and all you need to do is run the batch file; No more drag-and-dropping.

    I modded the new weapons, monsters, added new sounds, improvements and various other goodies.

  9. Woah, that final boss battle at the end completely blew me away with the new attacks and voice acting. You really outdid yourself with this update Niko!!! It was nothing short of AWESOME. Raridoom continues to go strong after so long. Thanks for making this great game Baha, and thanks for the fantastic custom mod Niko.

Not sure what the problem is here, but when I play the game the crab and chrysalis spawn fine with new attacks, but Mecha Trixie spawns as "Spidermastermind@raridoomv0.8.wad@decorate" and uses the standard doom hitscan spidermastermind attacks instead of the cool new ones. If I choose to summon "Spidermastermind" or "MechaTrixie" they spawn with the new attacks. but any existing masterminds don't spawn with the new attacks.

    2. I don't know what you did wrong, 'cause it works just fine for me. Did you launch the mod via the batch file? If not, it's important that you set 'RaridoomEdit.zip' to load AFTER 'raridoom point 8.wad'; and use GZDoom 2.1

      Try downloading the mod again. I often upload updated versions with minor tweaks/fixes from time-to-time without telling anybody.
